About

What is MissWizz?

MissWizz is the first urinal for women in which women can pee upright and contact free.

This can be done in 2 ways; the user stands above the wide spout of the urinal with the face away or with the face towards the urinal.

Why pee while standing?

Hygiene

No contact between the user and the urinal, and no contact with the hands to open or close the doors.

Comfort

Urinating standing upright is much more comfortable than hovering over a dirty public toilet seat.

Only pee!

Peeing while standing doesn't stimulate the other great need. So the urinals can be installed more easily in remote areas. In contrary to regular toilets who needs water to function.

And also very important: there is less odour nuisance.

Why is there a need for a female urinal

Gender equality

In all places where sanitary facilities are needed, there can be a gender equal offer thanks to the diverse MissWizz designs.

Shorter queues

Twice as many mobile MissWizz Fest female urinals can be installed as chemical toilets.

Plus a pee takes less time, so there certainly will be fewer long queues.

Male urinals versus female MissWizz urinals

Ecological: no water installation

All urinal designs function without water rinsing.

Even with the newest water-saving toilets that use only 0,5 liters per flush, a festival with 50.000 female visitors each using a toilet 4 times can save 100.000 liters of water. Per day!

The same story with regular economy toilets at 4 liters per flush the same festival would save 800,000 liters of water per day!

This is almost as much water as an Olympic swimming pool in rinse water for urine alone.

History of MissWizz

2010

The concept of the female urinal and name 'MissWizz' was born as a graduation project Product Development from Ellen Lejeune at the university of Antwerp.

2011

The thesis concept was redesigned into a cheaper and feasible design for testing. This first working prototype is being realized with the financial support of the City of Ghent and was tested 3 years in a row at the Ghent Festivities.

310 users were interviewed, of which 94% of the women were satisfied and would still use the female urinal again.

This prototype enjoyed spontaneous media attention

in newspapers, on the radio and on a TV show 'Goedele Op Dinsdag'.

Het Krochtje a cosy mobile toilet container, was built with a MissWizz female urinal in addition to regular toilets and urinals.

2017

After a makeover, the first prototype of 2011 receives a second life and is still used in the summer bar Bar Bricolage in Ghent.

2018

Conceptual elaboration of "MissWizz Urban". A permanent female urinal for cities in which 2 urinals are installed.

2019

A second prototype was necessary to test the practical side of the cabin.

The design had to be mobile, easy to transport and comfortable for the users. Crowdfunding was established in the summer of 2019 to finance the construction costs. The prototype was built in stainless steel and plastic tarpaulin. The cabin contains 2 female urinals, from which one is mounted at a lower height for smaller women.

Also this time the project enjoyed spontaneous media attention in newspapers, radio and even the VTM news on TV (22/07/2019).
